canyon | a narrow landform with steep sides carved out by wind and water (river erosion) |
delta | a triangular or fan-shaped landform at the mouth of a river from the deposition of sediment |
deposition | the dropping of sediment in a new location |
decomposition | the process of rotting; decay |
erosion | the movement of sediment from one place to another by wind, water, or ice |
frost wedging | a type of weathering that occurs when water trapped in cracks and pores of rocks repeatedly freezes and melts |
glacier | a large, slowly moving mass of ice |
isthmus | a narrow strip of land with sea on either side, forming a link between two larger pieces of land |
landform | a feature on Earth's surface |
landslide | the sliding down of a mass of earth or rock from a mountain or cliff |
mesa | an isolated hill with steep sides and a flat top |
moraine | piles or hills of sediment deposited by glaciers |
peninsula | a piece of land that is almost surrounded by water, but is connected to land on one side |
sand dune | a large hill or mound of sand formed by wind erosion and deposition |
sediment | small pieces of rock |
u-shaped valley | a landform created by weathering and erosion of rock as a glacier moves down a mountain |
weathering | the breaking down of larger rocks into smaller pieces called sediment |
