TermDefinition
Air Pressure the weight of air
Anemometer an instrument used to measure the speed of wind
Barometer an instrument used to detect and measure changes in air pressure
Barometric Pressure the pressure exerted by the atmosphere (atmospheric pressure)
Cloud a collection of billions of tiny droplets of water or ice and dust particles visible from the ground
Cold Front the leading edge of a cold air mass; it occurs when a cold air mass pushed a warm air mass ahead of it
Doppler Radar a weather tool that uses the Doppler effect to determine the position and velocity of weather phenomena such as cloud or storms
Humidity the amount of water vapor in the atmosphere
Meteorologist a scientist who studies Earth’s atmosphere and who monitors, studies, and forecasts weather
Precipitation water that falls to the ground from the atmosphere, this includes rain, hail, sleet, and snow
Temperature a measure of how hot or cold a material is; an indication of the amount of heat energy that has been absorbed by the material
Warm Front a boundary that forms when air masses meet that have different temperature, pressure, and humidity conditions
Weather the state of the atmosphere at a particular time and place
Wind the natural movement of air
