Atomic Number The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom.
Particle Mass The mass of protons, neutrons, electrons.
Proton Positively charged particles in an atom.
Neutron Neutrally charged particles in an atom
Electron Negatively charged particles in an atom.
Valence Electron The electrons that are at the highest energy level in an atom and are involved in chemical bonding.
Atomic Mass Mass of an atom of a given element.
Ionic Bond One atom takes electrons from the other. Between metals and nonmetals.
Covalent Bonds Two atoms share electrons between nonmetals and metals.
Group a column in the periodic table of the chemical elements
Period The horizontal rows of the periodic table
