Figurative Language

QuestionAnswer
What is a simile? A comparison of two things using the words like or as.
What is a metaphor? A direct comparison of two things (does not use the words like or as).
What is personification? When an object is given human qualities.
What is onomatopoeia? A word that sounds like the sound it makes.
What is alliteration? It is repeating sounds at the beginning of multiple words.
What is hyperbole? An extreme exaggeration.
What is an idiom? A common saying with a meaning completely different from its dictionary meaning.
What type of figurative language is this? - My mother is great at gardening! She has a green thumb. Idiom
What type of figurative language is this? -Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers. Alliteration
What type of figurative language is this? -The bee went buzzing by my head. onomatopoeia
