Stack #37212

A&P2 Class Notes P47 Endocrine #3/Test 3

QuestionAnswer
Anterior lobe produces 7 hormones:: GH, PRL, TSH, FSH, LH, ACTH, and MSH
The hormones that are tropic are: TSH, FSH,LH, & ACTH
GH is growth hormone, it regulates cell growth
Prolactin is PRL, it controls milk production and secretion
Thyroid Stimulating Hormone is: TSH; it regulates the production & release of thyroid hormones
Follicle-stimulating hormone is: FSH; it stimulates gamete production
Leutenizing hormone is: LH; sitmulates hormone production in gonads;
LH is called ICSH in: males
Adrenocorticotropic hormone is: ACTH; regulates production of hormones in adrenal cortex
Melanocyte stimulating hormone: MSH; stimulates MELANIN dispersal in skin to regulate pigmentation.
MSH is made in: pars intermedia; not active in adults
Posterior lobe is the: neurohypophysis or pars nervosa
The pons nervosa consists of cells called: PITUICYTES, which are similar to neuroglia
The pons nervosa is not really an endocrine gland because: it does not symthesize hormones
The hormones associated with the posterior pituitary: are actually produced in the: neurosecretary cells of the hypothalamus and then pressed into the special pituicles of the posterior pituitary
Posterior lobe releases: Oxytocin and Antidiuretic Hormones
Oxytocin is for: smooth muscle contraction ie: uterine flabor pains
Antidiuretic hormone (ADH) is: VASPORESSIN-causes kidneys to remove water from urine & return it to the blood
The th;yroid is located: just below the larynx
Thyroid consists of R & L lateral: lobes, which lie on eighor side of the trachea
Lobes (of thyroid) are connected to: a mass of tissue called the ISTHMUS that lies in front of the trachea & below the cricoid cartilage
The Thyroid contains FOLLICULAR cells that: reach the surface of the lumen of the follicle and PARAFOLLICULAR cells (C-cells) that are tucked in-between the follicular cells & the basement membranes of the follicular cells
The follicular cells manufacture: THYROXINE (T4) AND TRIIODOTHYRONINT (T3)
The T4 & T3 hormones are referred to as: thyroid hormones, which are regulators of metabolic rate.
Thyroid hormonesf are derivatives of: the amino acid tyrosinenin
Para follicular cells produce: CALCITONIN (CT), which lowers calcium levels in blood
