Liturgy of the Word the part of the Mass in which we listen and respond to God's Word
liturgical year the calendar that guides the litergies and celebrations of the Church year
Baptism the sacrament in which we become members of the Church and receive God's sanctifying grace and the Gift of the Holy Spirit
Confirmation the sacrament in which we are sealed with the Gift of the Holy Spirit, who strengthens us to live our baptismal promises
laying on of hands a sign of God's blessing that gives authority and grace in God's name
anoint to apply oil to someone as a sign that God has chosen that person for a special mission
Sacred Chrism oil blessed by the bishop; it is used in the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, Holy Orders, and Anointing of the Sick
Consecration the event at Mass in which the bread and wine truly become the Body and Blood of Christ
transubstantiation the change in the substance of the bread and wine during the Consecration, though to the senses they still appear as bread and wine
Real Presence Jesus Christ truly present in the Eucharist, Body, Blood, soul, and divinity
Sacraments of Healing the Sacraments of Penance and Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick, the sacraments that are concerned with healing the mind, body, and soul
Penance and Reconciliation the sacrament in which Jesus forgives our sins and heals us of both venial and mortal sin
Anointing of the Sick the sacrament by which God's grace and comfort are given to those who are seriously ill or are suffering
