What was the first settlement to be attempted by the English? Roanoke Island.
What was the first successful settlement by the English? Jamestown in South Virginia.
What are Pilgrims? A religious group called Separatists who wanted to separate themselves from the Church of England.
What is the Mayflower Compact? Rules created by the Pilgrims as a form of self government.
What is the purpose of the town meeting? To discuss issues with the Colony.
What Colonies were in the New England Colonies? New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island.
What were the New England Colonies known for? Fishing, lumber, and town hall meetings.
What Colonies were in the Middle Colonies? New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.
What were the Middle Colonies known for? Long growing season, fertile soil, breadbasket colonies, and diversity.
What Colonies were in the Southern Colonies? Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.
What were the Southern Colonies known for? Richest soil, cash crops, slavery, and plantations.
What happened in the Triangular Trade? The trades between Europe, Africa, and America occurred .
What is the Middle Passage? The horrific journey slaves were forced to take from Africa to America.
What is Mercantilism? The belief that Colonies exist only to benefit England
Navigation Acts are: Acts that make all goods to be carried on English ships, and be taxed and sold to Colonies.
Some examples of Self Government are: The House of Burgesses ( Jamestown ), The Mayflower Compact ( Plymouth ), Town Meetings ( New England ), and The League of the Iroquois ( Native Americans ).
Vocab: Social things are: Religion, Interactions between people, beliefs, and traditions.
Vocab: Economic things are: Having to do with jobs, production of goods, and trade.

What did the Puritans do? Purify, or reform the church of England.
What form of Self Government occurred in the New England and Middle Colonies? Town Hall Meetings.
What happened to the people of Roanoke? They vanished when the ship came back.
Why did the Pilgrims come to America? To practice their religion freely.
Were the Middle Colonies diverse? Yes.
Did the New England Colonies use the most slaves? No, it was the Southern Colonies.
What items were commonly traded in the triangular trade? Slaves, rum, sugar, and more.
What is England also known as? The Mother Country.
What did the Pilgrims face in England? Lots of religious persecution.
What did the citizens get to do in the Town Meetings? Voting and issue discussing.
Was it hard for the people of Jamestown when they arrived? Yes, they struggled to adapt.
