Term | Definition |

Word Processing | Computer program that provides for input, editing, formatting, and output of text, often with some additional features |
Default Font & Font Size | Arial, 11 |
Single Spacing | To type or print with no blank lines between lines of text |
Double Spacing | Type or format with a full space between lines |
Make a Copy | Make an exact duplicate of a Google Doc. It will say “Copy of….” in front of the copied document |
Download | Convert your Google Doc into a compatible Microsoft Word document and Portable Document Format (PDF). A PDF cannot be edited or changed |
Version History | Allows you to access previous edits and changes made to doc |
Move | Move your document to a new location (folder) in your Drive |
Underline | Line Under Text |
Italicize | Slanted Text |
Cut | Removes the selection to be pasted somewhere else on the document |
Copy | Duplicated the selection to be pasted somewhere else on the document |
Paste | Add the content that has been cut or copied onto your document |
Paste Without Formatting | Whatever weird line spacing or font that website had will go away, and the text will be converted to the same line spacing and font as your document |
New | Create a blank doc |
Open | Retrieve a doc from Drives |
Increase Font | Make font larger |
Print & Print Preview | Make your doc a paper copy by clicking the print command |
Rename | Give your document a new name. To do this, click the name in the top left corner and type |
Decrease Font | Make font smaller |
Page Color | Change color of the page |
Font Color | Change color of the text |
Capitalization | Change the Selected Text Between Different Types of Capitalization |
Highlight | Highlights text |
Superscript | Text Above Baseline |

Viewer | Can only view the document |
Commenter | Adds a comment from the reader of the document |
Editor | Can edit, comment, suggest, and view the document. |
Left Alignment | Text aligned to the left |
Center Alignment | Text aligned to the center |
Justified Alignment | Text justified |
Right Alignment | Text aligned to the right |
Shading | Shades the paragraph |
Borders | Line marking the perimeter of a paragraph |
Find & Replace | Find a word or phrase in your document and replace it with another word or phrase |
Select All | Select all content in the document |
Table | A table is a grid of rows and columns that organizes complex information so that it is easy to find and understand |
Rows | Data arranged horizontally |
Columns | Data arranged vertically |
Cells | A rectangular area formed by the intersection of a column and a row |
Word Count | Find out how many pages, words, and characters are used on your document |
Image/Online Pictures | Able to crop and replace images; along with other image option Insert an image into your doc from your computer, the web, Drive, URL, or camera |
Word Art | A feature that helps to highlight text in a fun and interesting way |
Shapes | Shape you can insert to create a drawing |
Drawing | Insert a new Google Drawing or a Google Drawing from your Drive |
Charts | A chart is defined as a diagram that illustrates and compares data |
Hyperlink | Copy a website link and attach it to a text-friendly word or phrase |
Headers | Text at the very top and very bottom of your document. Headers and Footers are placed outside of the normal typing margins |

Page Numbers | Insert a page number at the top or bottom of your page. You can also choose the position of the page number |
Text Box | A section or object on a page that allows a user to enter text |
Page Orientation | The way in which a rectangular page is oriented for normal viewing |
Special Characters/Symbols | Insert characters that are not numbers or letters present on your keyboard |
Margins (default size) | The blank and unused spaces between the document's content and edges |
Landscape | Horizontal page orientation |
Portrait | Vertical page orientation |
Spelling/Grammar Check | Correct spelling and grammar within your document |
Undo | Removes the action just done |
Redo | Adds the last action that was deleted back into the document |
Zoom | Allows you to zoom in or out of the document. |
Format Painter | Used to copy and paste character and paragraph formats to existing text |
Clear Formatting | Removes all text formatting |
