Tube Colors & Tests

NHA Tube colors and their tests

QuestionAnswer
Yellow used for: Blood cultures, paternity testing, DNA, tissue typing, and organ donation
Light blue used for: PT, hemostasis, and coagulation studies
Red used for: Glucose, cholesterol, LDH, vit D, triglycerides, potassium, BUN, antibody screening, hormones
Tiger/Gold used for: Vit B12, hormones, CMP, cholesterol, triglycerides, hepatic (liver) function
Green used for: Stat and routine chemistry tests, ammonia, electrolytes, arterial blood gases (ABG’s)
Lavender used for: CBC, ABO Rh, hematocrit, hemoglobin, hemoglobin A1C
Gray used for: Lactic acid, glucose tolerance, fasting blood sugar, alcohol levels
Royal blue (red) used for: Trace elements, nutritional analysis
Royal blue (lavender) used for: Blood heavy metals, NOT ARSENIC
Royal blue (green) used for: Heavy metals (arsenic, lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium, zinc)
Tan used for: Lead
Pink used for: Routine blood bank, blood donor, type and screen, antibody, and crossmatch
