Stack #36827

A&P2-ClassNotes P39 Immune Sys #8/Test 3

QuestionAnswer
COMPLETE ANTIGENS: are antigens that have at least two ANTIGEN DETERMINANT SITES-one for each of the antigen binding sites of an antibody molecule
ANTIGENIC DETERMINANT SITES are the portions of the: antigen that are exposed and will react with an antibody
HAPTENS are: PARTIAL ANTIGENS
PARTIAL ANTIGENS are molecules that: are two small to initiate an immune response on thier own
Partial antigens can link with a CARRIER to: create a complete antigen
A complete antigen is a: combination that will activate body defenses
The carrier may contribute: An antigenic determinant site
The antibodies produced will attack both: the antigen and its carrier molecule (ie:poisen ivy, cosmetics, etc...)
Most antigens have multiple antigenic determinents and: either antibodies or lymphocytes can attach to them
Self-antigens are not antigenic to us, but: form a basis for transfusion reactions & implant rejections in others
MHC stands for: MAJOR HISTOCOMPATIBILITY COMPLEX
MHC proteins are glycoproteins that: are on our cell membranes & specifically mark those membranes as self
HLA stands for: HUMAN LEUKOCYTE ANTIGENS
HLA's are part of the : MHC system
Healthy cells have MHC peptides that: are produced from the breakdown of normal cellular proteins & processes
Classes of MHC proteins include: CLASS 1 MHC & CLASS 11 MHC
Class 1 MHC - all body cells except: RBC's
Class 1 MHC is the class that: activates cytotoxic T-cells
CLASS 11 MHC is located on the surface of: mature B-cells, some T-cells and macrophages.
The Class 11 MHC is used to allow cells to: recognize one another during a battle
The IMMUNE SYSTEM is ______ specific. antigen
The Immune system is systemic, not isolated to: initial infection site.
The immune sys is equipped with memory after: initial attacks
There are several forms of immunity and they all: involve defensive T-cells & B-cells.
T-cells cannot react to antigens in: solution and B-Cells cannot cross a cell membrane.
Why do you need both T & B cells? T cells cannot react to antigens in solution and B-cells cannot cross a cell membrane.
The t-cells defend against: abnormal cells as well as antigens within cells
B-cells defend against pathogens: outside the cell that are within the body fluids

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
