TermDefinition
Integumentary System "Integ"; has to with the skin and its associated structures (hair, nails, oil glands, sweat glands and the sense receptors: pain, hot, cold, pressure)
Skeletal System comprises the bones and joints; the framework of the body; more than 200 bones in the body
Muscular System produces motion by operating the bones; skeletal muscles attach to bones (this is what enables us to move)
Nervous System controls and coordinates respinses; contains the brain and the spinal column as well as the special senses (eyes, ears, tastebuds, touch, smell)
Endocrine System regulates body activities by the release of hormones from glands in the body
Circulatory System transports substances to and from the cells; the heart and blood vessels pump blood to all body tissues
Lymphatic System nodes in the body that work as a filtering system for invading pathogens(substance that can cause infection); the vacuum cleaner of the body
Respiratory System provides oxygen and carries away carbon dioxide from the body
Digestive System deals with taking in food and converting it to useful substances for the body
Urinary System the main system for excreting waste; also called the excretory system
Reproductive System has one function- the production of children
