TermDefinition
Intergers The set of whole numbers and their opposites {. . .-2, -1, 0, 1, 2. . .}.
Order of Operations The specific order in which certain operations are to be carried out to evaluate or simplify expressions (PEMDAS)
Reciprocal Fractions 4/3 and 3/4 or 3 and 1/3
Rational Numbers *Any number that can be expressed as a fraction. *A set of numbers that includes positive and negative whole numbers, decimals, and fractions.
Simplify To write a fraction or expression in simplest form
Commutative Property a + b = b + a
Additive Inverse A number and its opposite add up to give zero. They are called inverse additives of each other.
Multiplicative Inverse Reciprocal (4/3 and 3/4 or 3 and 1/3)
Quotient The answer to a division problem
Algebraic Expression An expression that contains at least one variable
Evaluate To find the numerical value of a mathematical expression.
Numerical Term A single number or product (or quotient) of numbers.
Terms A single number, variable, or the product of numbers and variables, such as -45, 1.2x, and 3xy2.
Substitution Replacing one symbol with a number, a variable, or another algebraic expression of the same value.
Associative Property (a + b) + c = a + (b + c)
