decompose / decomposition | to rot or break down the remains of dead plants and animals into smaller parts |
soil | * a mixture of sand, silt, clay, rocks, and humus (dead plants and animals) * breaking down of rocks from wind, water, and climate (temperature) * known as "the skin of the Earth" |
weathering | the breaking down of rocks into smaller pieces by gravity, water, wind, or ice |
erosion | * the movement of weathered material; like rocks, soil, plants, and plant matter, by wind, water, or ice * move away and creates new landforms |
plant matter | dead parts of plants on the ground before decomposing |
