4CV Multiplication Vocab

TermDefinition
Factor Whenever two or more numbers are multiplied to give a product, each of the numbers that is multiplied is called a factor.
Product The ANSWER of multiplying two or more numbers called factors.
Identity Property of Multiplication The mathematical rule that says that if you multiply any number by 1, the answer will always be that same number that you started with. 78 x 1 = 78
Zero Property of Multiplication The mathematical rule that says that If you multiply a number by zero, the answer will be zero. 0 x 19 = 0
Multiplication Mathematical operation when you take one number and add it together a number of times. It is sometimes called repeated addition.

Multiple A product of any number and a counting number 2, 4, 6 , 8, 10, 12, and 14 are multiples of 2
Multiplicative Comparison Statements about quantities that use multiplication as the comparison. Oscar has 17 apples and Tom has 5 times as many apples as oscar does.
Prime Number A number that has EXACTLY TWO factors, 1 and itself.
Composite Number A number with MORE THAN TWO factors
