Air Pressure The measure of the force with which particles in the air push on an area of surface
Troposphere Lowest layer of the Atmosphere
Stratosphere The layer of the atmosphere above the Troposphere
mesosphere The layer above the stratosphere
Ionosphere An intresting layer called the ionosphere overlaps the meso, thermo and exo sphere. Its name comes from the fact that gases in these layers are excited by solar radiation to form ions which have an electrical charge
Exosphere The highest region of the atmosphere where the air density is so low that a fast moving air molecule is more than 50 percent likely to escape from the atmosphere instead of hitting other molecules.
Thermosphere The uppermost layer of the atmosphere
Ozone Layer The area ok the stratosphere that is located between 15 Km and 40 Km above Earths surface that contains a large amount of O zone.
Temperature The measure of kinetic energy particles
Thermal energy The total kinetic energy of particles
Thermal Expansion The increase in volume that results from an increase in temperature
Heat The energy that is transfered between objects that are at different temperatures
Radiation The transfer of energy as electromagnetic waves
Convection The transfer of energy due to the movement of matter
Conduction The transfer of energy from one object to another through direct contact
wind The movement of air caused by differences in air pressure
Greenhouse affect The process by which gases in the atmosphere, such as water vapor and carbon dioxide absorbs and gives off infrared radiation
Coriolis effect The apparent writing of the path of a moving object from an otherwise straight path due to earths rotation

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
