Term | Definition |

aptitude | A natural tendency to do something well, especially one that can be further developed |
interest inventory | An assessment of likes and dislikes |
stimulus | Something that encourages an activity or a process to begin, increase, or develop |
emotional intelligence | Personal attributes that enable people to succeed in life, including self-awareness, empathy, self-confidence, and self-control |
interdependence | Unable to exist or survive without each other |
etiquette | having good manners when dealing with people |
ethics | the principles of conduct that govern a group or society |
interpersonal skills | skills that promote relationships with other people |
professionalism | handling problems and criticism gracefully and maturely |
tact | the ability to do say and do things in a way that will not offend another person |
launching stage | life stage where couples prepare children to leave home |
developing stage | life stage where couples continue to have children or adopt |
sandwich generation | group of people who are caring for their parents and their children |
work ethic | how a person feels about his/her job and the effort he/she puts into it |
work values | ideas and beliefs concerning career/work that are important to a person and govern his/her perception of the job/occupation/career |
leisure | part of life where we rest, vacation, or participate in healthy activities outside of work/school |
change process | sequence of steps or activities that a management team or project leader follow to apply change management |
developmental progression | the purposeful sequencing of teaching and learning expectations across multiple developmental stages, ages, or grade levels |
interrelated | related to or connected to one another |
progression | the process of developing or moving gradually towards a more advanced state |
post-secondary | optional final stage of learning after completion of secondary (high school) education |
AP courses | advanced placement, college courses taken in high school |
IB courses | international baccalaureate, offering internationally recognized courses |

Cooperative Education | a school program that allows students to receive academic credit for career work done outside of school |

Accuplacer/ASSET | advising, placement, and retention system to identify basic skill levels of students as they enter a two-year institution |
CTE | Career and Technical Education |
Associate's Degree | 2 year degree from a community college, university, college, or technical school |
Bachelor's Degree | 4 year degree from a university/college; undergrad; specialize in certain area |
Masters Degree | degree at least one year beyond bachelor's degree |
Doctorate Degree | highest level of academic degree |
