Natural Resources

Natural resource vocabulary from quarter 3 6th grade science

QuestionAnswer
Renewable a resource that is inexhaustible or can be replaced at the same rate at which it is consumed
Nonrenewable a resource that forms at a rate that is much slower than the rate at which it is consumed
Fossil Fuel a nonrenewable energy resource formed from the remains of organisms that lived long ago
Solar Energy the energy received by the Earth from the sun as a form of radiation. This is a renewable resource.
Geothermal Energy the energy produced by heat within the Earth. This is a renewable resource.
Biomass organic matter that can be a source of energy. This is a renewable resource.
Wind Energy the use of a windmill or turbine to drive an electric generator. This is a renewable resource.
Hydropower the energy that comes from the force of moving water. This is a renewable resource.
Natural Gas a fossil fuel in gaseous form found under the surface of the Earth, often near petroleum deposits. This is a nonrenewable resource.
Petroleum a liquid fossil fuel that is often called crude oil or oil. It is found underground. It is a nonrenewable resource.
Propane an energy—rich gas that is often found mixed with deposits other fossil fuels. It is a nonrenewable resource.
Coal a black solid fossil fuel that is found underground. It is a nonrenewable resource.
