What's a business district? an exterior shopping area that has developed without much planning
What is a freestanding location? a store not attached to other retailers
What is an example of a shopping center? Mall
What is an example of a business district? Storage area/car wash in Nashville
What is an example of a freestanding location? Dollar General in Nashville
What are four components of a shopping mall? Elevators, bathrooms, anchor stores, retail stores
What are four shapes of a shopping mall? Circle, square, rectangle, L
What is store image? The personality of a store
What is store layout? the arrangement of the store's merchandise, fixtures, and equipment
What is advertising? paid message that a business sends to the public
What are sales promotions? (techniques) techniques that retailers use to encourage customers to come to the store
What is publicity and PR (public relations)? any unpaid mention of the business or activity that enhances the store's image
What is a promotional budget? the amount of money the business is willing to spend on promotion
What is sales promotion? (incentives) short-term incentives to get customers interested in buying a product (the goal is the get customers into their stores)
What is an example of a BOGO? JoAnn's- buy one pattern, get one free!
What is an example of a coupon? Kohl's Cash- $10 off your next purchase!
What is an example of a sample? Sam's- try our new spicy chicken
What is an example of a rebate? Menards- 11% back on every purchase
What is a promotional email? Kohl's- 2022 fall trends-- order yours now
What is a promotional contest? Pizza for life- Pizza Hut
What is a sales event? Black Friday
What is dumping? a technique used by stores where a bin or large container is used to dump merchandise
How much of consumer magazine newsstand sales are determined by what is shown on the cover? 80%
How long does the average reader spend scanning magazines to determine whether it's worth buying? 3-5 seconds
What is a masthead? the magazine's logo/title
What is a selling line? a short description of the title's main marketing point
What is a dateline? Month and year of the publication, often with selling price
What is the main image? Background image on the magazine
What is the main coverline? the largest of the many coverlines on the cover
What are cover lines? Headings for separate articles inside the issue
What is the left third? Left third of the magazine- vital for selling magazines
What is the model credit? Gives the name of the model on the main image of the issue
