Term | Definition |

First | Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, right to petition government |
Second | Right to bear arms (not related to militias) |
Third | Government cannot house soldiers in citizens' homes |
Fourth | Ensures a search warrant is obtained before a home can be entered, mentions probable cause, and searches and seizures |
Fifth | "You have the right to remain silent"; cannot be tried for the same crime twice; cannot be forced to testify against oneself; cannot be deprived of life, liberty, and/or property without due process |
Sixth | Guarantees the right to a speedy trial and a lawyer in court |
Seventh | In disputes over property worth more than $20, parties have a right to trial by jury |
Eighth | Prohibits excessive bail- money or property that accused gives to court to get out of jail until trial Prevents judges from ordering excessive fines Bans "cruel and unusual punishment" Limits to the death penalty/challenges |
Ninth | All other rights not spelled out in the Constitution are kept by the people Individual rights |

Fifteenth | Makes it illegal to prevent someone from voting because of their race or because they were previously a slave |
Sixteenth | Allows government to charge a federal income tax on individuals |
Seventeenth | Says that people can elect senators directly |
Eighteenth | Outlaws making, selling, or transportation of alcoholic beverages (Prohibiton) |
Nineteenth | Gave women the right to vote |
Twentieth | Sets new dates for when the Vice President and President take office (January 20th) |
Twenty-first | Makes alcohol legal |
Twenty-second | Limits a president to a maximum of two terms |
Twenty-third | Gave residents of Washington DC the right to vote for president and vice-president |
Twenty-fourth | Prohibits poll taxes in federal elections |
Twenty-fifth | Sets up process for vice president to take over if something happens to the president or if president needs to be replaced |
Twenty-sixth | Lowers the voting age in state and federal elections from 21 to 18 |
Twenty-seventh | Makes pay raises to congress effective during the next term/after the next election after it is passed |
