Chemistry - Unit 2
Unit 2 Vocabulary
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Electromagnetic Spectrum | The range of frequencies of electromagnetic radiation and their respective wavelengths and photon energies. |
Bohr Model | A system consisting of a small, dense nucleus surrounded by orbiting electrons. |
Ground State | The lowest energy state of an atom. |
Excited State | A state of an atom that is higher in energy than the ground state. |
Wavelength | The spatial period of a periodic wave - the distance over which the wave's shape repeats. |
Frequency | The number of waves that pass a fixed point in unit time. |
Photon | A particle representing a quantum of light or other electromagnetic radiation. |
Spectral Lines | A dark or bright line in an otherwise uniform and continuous spectrum, resulting from emission or absorption of light in a narrow frequency range, compared with the nearby frequencies. |
