Speed, Velocity, Acceleration Vocabulary Words

Speed the distance an object travels per unit of time
Velocity speed in a given direction
Acceleration the rate of change of velocity which includes speeding up, slowing down, or changing direction
Deceleration slowing down
At Rest not moving, stopped, sitting still, motionless
Displacement how far an object is away from where it started
Direction a course along which something or someone moves
Units of Speed miles per hour (mph), meters per second (m/s), kilometers per hour (km/h)
Units of Velocity miles per hour (mph) east, meters per second (m/s) north kilometers per hour (km/h) towards Galveston Direction can be up, down, left, right, east, west, north, south, towards, going back
Units of Acceleration meters per second squared (m/s2) can also be written as m/s/s
Increased become or make greater in speed, size, amount, intensity, or degree Ex: speed up
