CAP Leadership Ch 1

TermDefinition
Explain why America needs leadership. In order to be a strong nation, America needs strong leadership.
Explain what a "warrior" is in the context of the "warrior spirit." A warrior defends his or her personal honor.
Describe the hallmarks of the warrior spirit. Tough-mindedness and tireless motivation.
Identify three benefits of having a warrior spirit. Clear conscience, good reputation, and environment of trust and respect.
Describe what "core values" are. The four basic qualities CAP expects all members to display at all times.
Identify and describe each of CAP's four Core Values. Integrity First: The willingness to do what is right, even when no one is looking. Volunteer Service: Selflessness. Excellence in All We Do: Giving everything your best effort. Respect: Defending human dignity.
What is self-awareness? The ability to monitor and judge your own actions.
What is self-discipline? What can you do to develop it? The ability to direct your thoughts toward a meaningful purpose.
What is attitude? The state of mind that lies behind every action.
How do you develop a positive attitude? Good attitudes arise from understanding.
What is an oath? A solemn promise.
What is the root of all military customs and courtesies? Basic politeness and respect.
Why is rendering customs and courtesies not a mark of inferiority? Because they are a mark of mutual respect.
How do customs and courtesies affect team spirit? They show the team that you respect and value their time and effort.
Why is the uniform a useful leadership training tool? It helps us learn self-discipline, personal responsibility, and self-respect.
Why is the concept of image important when wearing the uniform? Because overall image displays how you feel about your duty to CAP.
Why is wearing the uniform a privilege? Because we wear an Air Force-style uniform, there is a special obligation to wear it properly and with pride.
How do drill and ceremonies help cadets develop leadership? It requires attention to detail and self-discipline.
What is a chain of command? The order of authority.
