QuestionAnswer
Origin of Pectoralis major Medial half of the clavicle (clavicular head); anterior surface of the sternum, 1st to 6th costal cartilages, aponeurosis of external oblique muscle (sternocosotal head)
Insertion of Pectoralis major Crest of greater tubercle of humerus
Action of Pectoralis major Adduction and medial rotation of the humerus; Assist to elevate thorax during forced inhalation (arm fixed) Upper fibers: flex and horizontally adduct(G/H joint). Lower fibers extend (G/H joint)
Innervation of Pectoralis major Lower fibers: Lateral and medial pectoral nerves (C6, 7, 8 , T1) Upper fibers: Lateral Pectoral Nerves (C5, 6, 7)
Origin of Pectoralis minor Anterior surface of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th ribs and the fascia overlying the intercostal spaces
Insertion of Pectoralis minor Medial border and superior surface of the coracoid process of the scapula
Action of Pectoralis minor Protraction of the scapula, pulls the coracoid process anteriorly and inferiorly, accessory muscle in respiratory
Innervation of Pectoralis minor Medial pectoral nerve
Origin of Deltoid Lateral third of the clavicle, acromion, and spine of scapula Mnemonic: 'Deltoid helps you carry SACS'
Insertion of Deltoid Deltoid tuberosity of the humerus
Action of Deltoid Abduction and stabilization of the glenohumeral joint
Innervation of Deltoid Axillary nerve (C5, 6)
Origin of Coracobrachialis Coracoid process of the scapula
Insertion of Coracobrachialis Medial surface of mid-humeral shaft
Action of Coracobrachialis Adduction and flexion shoulder at glenohumeral joint
Innervation of Coracobrachialis Musculocutaneous nerve (C6, 7)
Origin of Latissimus dorsi Inferior angle of scapula, spinous process of last 6 thoracic Vertebrae, last 3 or four ribs thoracolumbar aponeurosis and posterior iliac crest
Insertion of Latissimus dorsi Intertubercular groove of the humerus
Action of Latissimus dorsi Extend, adduct and medial rotate shoulder at glenohumeral joint
Innervation of Latissimus dorsi Thoracodorsal nerve (C6-C8)
Action of Anterior deltoid fibers Flex, medial rotate, horizontally abduct shoulder at glenohumeral joint
Action of Posterior deltoid fibers Extend, laterally rotate, and horizontally abduct shoulder at glenohumeral joint
Origin of subclavius Costal cartilage, sternal end of rib 1
Insertion of subclavius Anteroinferior surface of middle third of clavicle
Action of subclavius Stabilize Sternoclavicular joint: Anchors and depresses clavicle, elevate 1st rib to assist with inhalation,
