Matter | Anything that takes up space and that has mass |
Physical Property | a characteristic of a substance that does not involve a chemical change |
Chemical property | a property of matter that describes a substance ability to participate in chemical reactions |
Physical Changes | a change of matter from one form to another without a change in chemical properties |
Chemical changes | a change that occurs when one of more substance change |
extensive property | a property that depends on the extent or size of a system |
intensive property | the property that doesn't depend on the amount of matter present |
ductility | the ability of a substance to be hammered thin or drawn out into a wire |
malleability | the ability of a substance to be hammed or beaten into a sheet |
volume | a measure of the size of a body or region in the three-dimensional space |
compressibility | the measure of how much a given volume of matter decreases when placed under pressure |
density | the ratio of the mass |
evaporation | the change of a substance from a liquid to gas |
sublimation | the process in which a solid change directly into a gas |
vaporization | the process by which a solid or liquid turn into a gas |
element | a substance that cannot be seprated |
compound | a substance made up of two or more atoms |
atom | the smallest unit of an element |
`heteogeneous mixture | composed of dissimiliar components |
homogeneous mixture | describes something that has a uniform structure or composition throughout |
