What is the Central Processing Unit? | CPU, the microprocessor or “brain” of the computer |
What is the CPU’s responsibility or job? | Fetch-gets software instructions from memory telling it what to do with the data, decode, and execute. |
Name the four mesaurments of the central processing unit. | Hertz, kilohertz, megahertz, and gigahertz. |
What is Random Access Memory (RAM)? | Short Term. Accepts new information for temporary storage. |
What is Read Only Memory (ROM)? | Long term. Information the computer uses again and again. Doesn’t accept new information-change NOT be changed. |
What does BIOS stand for? | Basic Input/Output System. |
Name four different mesaurments of byte. | Kilobyte, megabyte, gigabyte, and terabyte. |
Name the parts of the motherboard. | CPU, memory, sound cards, graphic cardsm and expanison cards. |
What is a hard disk? | A large-capacity storage used to hold information such as programs and documents. |
What is absolutely vital to the operation of a computer? | Power Supply. |
What does the power supply do? | Converts alternating current (AC) line from your home to the direct current (DC) needed by the personal computer. |
What is GPU? | Graphics processing unit. |
What is Real-Time Clock? | A clock containing a vibrating crystal that all components synchronize properly. |
What is Complementary Metal? | Allows a computer to store information even when the computer powers down. |
What keeps the computer from overheating? | Fans, heat sinks, and cooling systems |
What is a flash memory? | Solid state storage device. Retains data even after computer is turned off. |
What does the operating system do? | Basic software that allows the user to interface with the computer. |
What is the first thing loaded on the computer? | Operating System (OS). |
What are the desktop computer resources? | Processor, memory, && disk space |
What are PC Connections? | A way to interact with computer components. |
What does USB stand for? | Universal Serial Bus. |
What is the launge of machines? | Bits && bytes. |
What does ASCII stand for? | American Standard Code of Information Interchange. |
What does ASCII do? | Makes communication possible for digital devices to talk. |
What are transistors? | Microscopic electronic switches that turn on and off million times a second. |
