A computer is an electronic device that does what? Accepts data, processes data according to instructions, provides data results, and stores data.
A CPU is a single chip that contains what? Millions of transistors that work together.
What is a CPU's job? To fetch software and information, decode what the instruction means, and execute which means perform the instruction.
What are the units that the CPU's speed is measured by? Hertz, Kilohertz, Megahurtz, and Gigahertz.
What are the types of computer memory? RAM, ROM, BIOS, and POST.
What are the types of memory measured in? Byte, Kilobyte, Megabyte, Gigabyte, and Terabyte.
What is the Motherboard? Main circuit board to which all of the other internal components connect.
What is a Hard Disk? It is a large-capacity storage used to hold information such as programs and documents.
What is the Operating System (OS)? It's basic software that allows the user to interface with the computer.
What is the Accelerated Graphics Port (AGP)? It's very high speed connection used by the graphics card to interface with computer.
Which type of computer memory is short term memory? RAM (Random Access Memory)
Which type of computer is memory is long term memory? ROM (Read Only Memory)
What is Flash Memory? It is a solid state device that retains data even after a computer is turned off.
What are newer hard drives flash-based with? No moving parts. They are solid state drives.
What system is a computer useless without? Operating System.
What are some purposes of the Operating System? To manage the hardware and software resources and provides a stable consistent way for applications to deal with hardware.
What is Integrated Drive Electronics (IDE)? The primary Interface for the hard drives.
What are Ports? An interface that allowsa computer to communicate with peripheral equiptment.
What does CMOS stand for? Complementary Metal-Oxide Semiconductor.
What does CMOS do? It's a battery that allows a computer to store information even when the computer powers down.
What are some ways to interact with computer components? With a mouse, keyboard, monitor, etc...
What does CRT stand for? Cathode-Ray Tubes.
How are LCD monitors measured? From inside of the corner to diagonal corner.
How are CRT monitors measured? From outside of the corner to diagonal corner.
Name a device that Fire Wire is used for. Digital Cameras.
