Absolute direction the exact compass directional reading
absolute distance the distance that can be measured with standard length
absolute location the precise spot where something is according to some system
accessibility how quickly and easily people in one location can interact with people in another location
built landscape human-made environmental elements including building, monuments, and streets
clustered if objects are close/grouped together
connectivity how well two locations are tied together by roads or other links
cultural ecology the study of how humans adapt to the environment
cultural landscape anything built by humans
density the frequency with which something exists within a given unit of area
dispersal the distribution of this or people over a wide area
distance decay the diminishing in importance and eventual disappearance of a phenomenon with increasing distance from its origin
elevation height above a given level, usually sea level
environmental determinism the belief that landforms and climate are the most powerful forces shaping human behavior and societal development
equator an imaginary line that circles the globe exactly halfway between the North and South Poles
field observation used to refer to the act of physically visiting a location, place, or region and recording, firsthand, information there.
geographic data refers to the data and information that is tied to a specific location
ghost town abandoned settlements
globalization refers to the homogenizing impact on local culture and economics caused by increased interaction between geographically distinct regions
human-environment interaction the connection and exchange between humans and the natural world
human geography the study of the spatial characteristics of humans and human activities
international date line an imaginary line that goes north and south through the Pacific Ocean, separating one day from another.
latitude the distance north and south of the equator
longitude the distance east or west of the prime meridian
physical geography the study of spatial characteristics of various elements of the physical environment
place refers to the specific human and physical characteristics of a location
possibilism a view that acknowledges limits on the effects of the natural environment and focuses more on the role that human culture plys
