connectivity | how well two locations are tied together by roads or other links |
cultural ecology | the study of how humans adapt to the environment |

density | the frequency with which something exists within a given unit of area |
dispersal | the distribution of this or people over a wide area |
distance decay | the diminishing in importance and eventual disappearance of a phenomenon with increasing distance from its origin |
elevation | height above a given level, usually sea level |
environmental determinism | the belief that landforms and climate are the most powerful forces shaping human behavior and societal development |
equator | an imaginary line that circles the globe exactly halfway between the North and South Poles |
field observation | used to refer to the act of physically visiting a location, place, or region and recording, firsthand, information there. |
