Vocabulary List

Motion A change in the position of an object over time
Reference Point A stationary object such as a tree, street sign or a line on the road
Speed A measure of motion
Distance A change of position
Calculating Speed Distance over Time
Velocity Speed of an object plus its vector (direction)
Acceleration The measure of an object's change in velocity over a certain amount of time
Force A push or pull on an object.
Balanced Forces The net force on an object equals zero
Unbalanced Forces The net force on an object is greater than zero
Inertia The tendency of objects to resist a change in motion
Mass A result of a number of kind of atoms an object is made of
Friction A force that opposes teh motion of an object
Gravity The force of attraction between all objects
Terminal Velocity When the force of air resistance equals the weight of the object.
Projectile An object that is throne
Work Is done to an object when an object moves in the same direction in which a force is applied
Calculating Work Is force time distance
Machine A device that makes work easier
Input Force Force applied to a machine.
Output Force The force a machine exerts on an object
Mechanical Advantage The number of times the machine multiplies force
