Nitrogen Cycle: The only organism that can take nitrogen from the atmosphere and put a usable form in the soil. Bacteria
Nitrogen Cycle: Organisms that can only uptake nitrogen they need from the soil. Plants
Nitrogen Cycle: Organisms that have to get their nitrogen from eating plants or animals. Animals
What do the arrows in a food web show? The direction energy and nutrients are moving in the food web.
This supplies the energy needed for most food webs. The Sun
Organisms that make their own food by photosynthesis. Producers
Organisms that are the foundation or the beginning of any food web. Producers (Green plants, etc)
Consumers that eat secondary consumers (Carnivores or Omnivores) Tertiary (3rd) Consumer
Who are the producers in this food web? Grass, Shrub, Tree
Who would be most affected if shrubs were removed from this food web? Rabbit, Deer
Who are the 1st consumers in this food web? Squirrel, Grasshopper, Rabbit, Deer
Who would probably drop in population if the insect-eating birds died out? Hawk
Who would directly receive a population boost if the insect-eating birds died out? Grasshoppers
Organisms that eat other living things for energy. Consumers
Organisms that break down dead things for energy. Decomposers
Consumers that eat only producers (Herbivores, plant eaters) Primary (1st) Consumer
Consumers that eat primary consumers (Carnivores or Omnivores) Secondary (2nd) Consumer
Water Cycle: The process in which surface water is turned into water vapor by the Sun's energy. Evaporation
Water Cycle: The process in which water vapor cools in the upper atmosphere and turns into tiny water droplets to form clouds. Condensation
Water Cycle: The process in which plants lose water vapor to the atmosphere when they exchange gases. Transpiration
Water Cycle: The process in which tiny water droplets form bigger ones and fall to the Earth as rain, hail, snow, or sleet. Precipitation
