Air embolism | The presence of air bubbles in the bloodstream |
Catheter fragment embolism | The shearing or detachment of an IV catheter, allowing the embolus to travel in the bloodstream |
Cellulitis | An infectious condition of the skin resulting in inflammation that is characterized most commonly by local heat, redness, pain, and swelling, and occasionally by fever, malaise, chills, and headache. |
Embolus | A blockage or free-moving thrombus in a blood vessel |
Extravasation | The passage or escape of blood, serum, or lymph into the tissues |
Hematoma formation | The infiltration of blood into the tissues at the site of venipuncture |

Thromboembolism | A condition in which a blood vessel is blocked by an embolus carried in the bloodstream from the site of formation of the clot |
Thrombosis | The formation of a blood clot in a blood vessel |
