Why is a plug plastic casing? It protects people from the electricity
Why are plug pins made from brass? Brass is a good conductor of electricity
What is a fuse? Small cartridge with wire in it.
How does an earth wire help? It conducts the electricity back into it
What is a 3A fuse used for Radios, fans, lamps etc
What is a 5A fuse used for? Sound systems, microwave etc
What is a 13A fuse used for? Dishwasher, oven etc
Equation for power, p.d and current? Power= potential difference x current
Direct current The charge only flows in one direction
Alternating current It changes direction.
Equation for Energy transferred, p.d, and charge Energy transferred= p.d x charge
Equation for energy transferred, power and time Energy transferred=power x time
What are double insulated electronics? Uses reinforced protective insulation and basic insulation
Where is a step up transformer found? At or by the power station
Where is a step down transformer found? Closer to the consumer
Why is iron used for a transformer? Iron is magnetic
What does a transformer do? Increases voltage or reduces it or increases or reduces the current
For a step up transformer what coil has less turns? Primary more turns on secondary to make the p.d bigger
Why is a transformer important? IT is more efficient by preventing the loss of heat energy
UK mains voltage? 230V and 50Hz
