Question | Answer |
---|---|
ratio | a comparison of two numbers using division |
proportion | An equation that states that two ratios are equal |
means | in a/b=c/d, a and c are means |
extremes | in a/b=c/d, a and d are extremes |
geometric mean | two positive numbers a and b is the positive number x that satisfies a/x = x/b. So, x squared = ab and x = √ab. |
scale drawing | a drawing that is the same shape as the object that it represents. |
scale | the ratio that describes how the dimensions in the drawing are related to the actual dimensions of the object |
similar polygons | two polygons are similar if corresponding angles are congruent and corresponding side lengths are proportional. |
scale factor | two polygons are similar, then the ratio of the lengths of two corresponding sides |
dilation | the transformation that stretches or shrinks a figure to create a similar figure. |
center of dilation | in a dilation, a figure is enlarged or reduces with the respect to a fixed point |
scale factor of a dilation | the ratio of a side length of the image to the corresponding side length of the original figure. |
reduction | if 0<k<1, the dilation of a reduction. |
enlargement | if k>1, the dilation is an enlargement. |
