Basic Geometry
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Angle | Two rays that share the same starting point. |
Line | A set of connected points that extends forever in two directions. |
Ray | A portion of a line that as one starting point and extends forever in one direction. |
Line Segment | A portion of a line that has one starting point and one ending point. |
Acute Angle | An angle that measures more than 0 degrees but less than 90 degrees. |
Obtuse Angle | An angle that measures more than 90 degrees but less than 180 degrees. |
Right Angle | An angle that measures exactly 90 degrees. |
Straight Angle | An angle that measure exactly 180 degrees. |
Adjacent Angles | Angles that are next to each other and share a common side and a common vertex. |
Complementary Angles | Two angles that add to 90 degrees. |
Supplementary Angles | Two angles that add to 180 degrees. |
Vertical Angles | Formed by pairs of intersecting lines and are across from each other. They are congruent (equal). |
