Learn some of the meanings for aviation
Question | Answer |
---|---|
Take off | When a airplane has enough speed to provide lift on the airplane making the aircraft fly. |
Climb | A Climb is a maneuver after take off when the aircraft goes higher |
Coffin Corner | Coffin corner is the region of flight where a fast but subsonic fixed-wing aircraft's stall speed is near the critical Mach number, at a given gross weight and G-force loading. |
Stall | In fluid dynamics, a stall is a reduction in the lift coefficient generated by a foil as angle of attack increases. This occurs when the critical angle of attack of the foil is exceeded. |
Windshear | Wind shear, sometimes referred to as wind gradient, is a difference in wind speed and/or direction over a relatively short distance in the atmosphere. Atmospheric wind shear is normally described as either vertical or horizontal wind shear. |
Knots | A knot is an intentional complication in cordage which may be practical or decorative, or both. |
Decent | When the aircraft is losing altitude. this normally happens just before landing |
Landing | Landing is the one of last part of a flight, where the aircraft or spaceship touches the ground returns to the ground. |
Crosswind Landing | In aviation, a crosswind landing is a landing maneuver in which a significant component of the prevailing wind is perpendicular to the runway center line. |
Tailwind Landing | When you're landing with a tailwind, you have a higher ground and speed on touchdown. When pilots land with a higher ground speed, they have a tendency of braking more aggressively than usual. |
Headwind Landing | During take off and landing, headwind increases the airflow, hence the necessary lift is achieved earlier and at lower speeds (the wind speed is added to the aircraft speed). As a result, less runway is required to perform a safe take off or landing. |
Backtrack | To taxi on a runway-in-use, in the opposite direction to the aircraft's take-off or landing direction. (U- Turn) |
Taxi | the movement of an aircraft on the ground, under its own power, in contrast to towing or pushback where the aircraft is moved by a tug. |
PAPI Lights | lights are a set of lights positioned beside the runway which provide pilots with a visual indicator of their aircraft's position relative to the correct glidepath for the runway. (precision approach path indicator) |
TCAS | A traffic collision avoidance system or traffic alert and collision avoidance system is an aircraft collision avoidance system designed to reduce the incidence of mid-air collision between aircraft. |
