Chapter 29 Questions

QuestionAnswer
What is the Law of Reflection? the angle of incidence=the angle of reflection
What happens when a wave reaches a boundary between two medias? Usually some or all of the wave bounces back into the first medium.
True or False. Plane mirrors only produce virtual images? True.
What happens when light is incident on a rough surface? It is reflected in many directions.
True or False. Sound energy not reflected is absorbed or transmitted. True.
Materials such as ____ and ___ are not as rigid to light waves. glass and water
What is the shape of a plane mirror? flat.
What is the shape of a convex mirror? curved out (

What is an example of a concave (close up) mirror? A makeup mirror.
What is reflected sound called? An echo.
What is most important to remember about metals and light waves? Metals surfaces are rigid to light waves, light energy is reflected back and makes metals look shiny, and they contain all frequencies of visible light.
What happens when light shines perpendicularly on the surface of still water? 2 percent of its energy is reflected and the rest is transmitted.
What happens when light strikes glass perpendicularly? 4 percent of the energy is reflected and except for a slight losses, the rest is transmitted.

Use these flashcards to help memorize information. Look at the large card and try to recall what is on the other side. Then click the card to flip it. If you knew the answer, click the green Know box. Otherwise, click the red Don't know box.

When you've placed seven or more cards in the Don't know box, click "retry" to try those cards again.

If you've accidentally put the card in the wrong box, just click on the card to take it out of the box.

You can also use your keyboard to move the cards as follows:

If you are logged in to your account, this website will remember which cards you know and don't know so that they are in the same box the next time you log in.

When you need a break, try one of the other activities listed below the flashcards like Matching, Snowman, or Hungry Bug. Although it may feel like you're playing a game, your brain is still making more connections with the information to help you out.
