Lesson 5.1 Light
Term | Definition |
---|---|
light | is electromagnetic radiation within the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is perceived by the human eye. |
Wave | Particle Duality |
electromagnetic radiation | The energy transferred through space by electromagnetic waves. |
oscillation | movement back and forth at a regular speed |
wave | A disturbance that transfers energy from place to place |
speed of light | 3.00 x 10^8 m/s |
wavelength | Horizontal distance between the crests or between the troughs of two adjacent waves |
frequency | The number of complete waves that pass a given point in a certain amount of time |
displacement | change in position relative to the starting position |
amplitude | For a wave or vibration, the maximum displacement on either side of the equilibrium (midpoint) position. |
inverse relationship | a relationship in which one variable decreases when another variable increases |
electromagnetic spectrum | the range of wavelengths or frequencies over which electromagnetic radiation extends. |
