Herbs 1-Week 4(A)

Herbs 1-Week 4- Clear Heat-Cool Blood

QuestionAnswer
What can you say about Water Buffalo Horn? Only that it is a cheap imitation of Xi Jiao? Shui Nu Jiao (Cornu Bubali)
Fresh Earth's Yellowness: "Yin tonic that Clears Heat" aka "sweet & juicy" Sheng di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae) aka Fresh Earth's Yellowness
The only Clear Heat-Cool Blood in our list that is SALTY. (So eliminates toxins and softens hardness.) (Well, the Lithospermi one also "eliminates toxins--AND HEAT (rashes, measles, chicken pox) from the skin..) Xuan Shen (xuan= dark, mysterious)
The BAC (sl Cold) of the Clear Heat-Cool Blood category. The ONLY one that is Acrid-- so it "invigorate" Blood, disperses Blood stagnation (e.g. fibroids & bruises from traumatic injury) Mu Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan)
"Purple Herb Root" but I like the "Stoned Sperm" aspect of this better... Zi Cao (Radix Lithospermi)
The "Yin tonic that clears heat" (in the Blood). Used in a "ton" of Shen calming formulas. Sheng di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae)
While the fresh preparation of this herb is also something of a yin tonic its main action is to Clear Heat/Cool Blood. The steamed & dried (9-10 times) preparation, by contrast ("Shu di") is more of a proper yin tonic. Sheng di Huang (Radix Rehmanniae)
Clears Heat in the Blood and is used in a ton of Shen calming formulas-- and also commonly used for menopause sx. Goes to HT, LIV (like all but one of the Clear Heat-Cool Blood herbs on list) but also to KIDNEY! Sheng di Huang (Raeix Rehmanniae)
The "dark, mysterious" root. It's the only Clear Heat-Cool Blood herb that enters NEITHER HEART nor LIVER!!! (Bonus pts: What channels does it enter then?) The dark mystery root: Xuan Shen (aka Radix Scrophulariae). In terms of channels, it's more like a Wind-Cold herb (LU-ST), but also KID. It is Sweet, Salty, Bitter and Cold!!
In the Clear Heat-Cool Blood category, this one is salty (in addition to sweet, cold, bitter) so it softens hardness and dissipates nodules. (It's also "excellent for sore throat.") Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae)
What are the two herbs, off the top of your head, you might use for LU heat with a DRY cough? The obvious one: Sang Ye (from the Wind-Heat category). The other one, strangely enough from the Cool Blood category, is Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae).
This "dark, mysterious" sweet, salty, bitter cold root is also "excellent for lowering BLOOD GLUCOSE levels" in diabetes! Xuan Shen (Radix Scrophulariae)
Incompatible with Xuan Shen (and all the Shens for that matter)? Li Lu
The tree peony root bark that is "great for menopause symptoms." Goes to the HT and LIV, as expected, but also to the KID-- making it ideal for menopause. And of course since it is in the Cool Blood category. Mu Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan)
Invigorates Blood and disperses Blood Stagnation (because it is ACRID-- in addition to bitter and sl cold) Mu Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan)
EXTREMELY pungent odor, this tree peony root bark, so careful in people with weak stomachs! Mu Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan)
This tree peony root bark is also "often used for women with long, heavy periods." Mu Dan Pi (Cortex Moutan)
Careful with this Blood Cooling herb if you are trying to get pregnant.... Zi Cao (Radix Lithospermi) I guess the sperm swim like stones?
This Clear Heat-Cool Blood herb (that is the stoned sperm) is said to be "slippery" as well as sweet and cold. So don't use it in SP qi deficiency. Zi Cao (Radix Lithospermi)
This Clear Heat-Cool Blood herb (that is the stoned sperm) is said to be "slippery" as well as sweet and cold. So it is, strangely enough, good for constipation and dry stools d/t Heat in the Blood. Zi Cao (Radix Lithospermi)
