Standards and figurative language vocabulary words

Viewpoint The way someone sees something
Community All the different populations that live together in an area
Leadership Process of influencing others by providing purpose direction and motivation.
Prediction A statement of what will happen next in a sequence of events.
Tone Attitude a writer takes toward the audience, a subject, or a character
Mood Feeling or atmosphere that a writer creates for the reader
Inference A conclusion reached on the basis of evidence and reasoning
Delusive giving a false or misleading impression
Interaction the interplay that occurs when the effect of one factor depends on another factor
Stanza A group of lines in a poem
Metaphor A comparison without using like or as
Simile A comparison using "like" or "as"
Connotative The ideas or concepts a word suggests in addition to its literal definition
Figurative Language Language that cannot be taken literally since it was written to create a special effect or feeling.
Alliteration Repetition of initial consonant sounds
Word phrases a small group of words standing together as a conceptual unit, typically forming a component of a clause: "“to improve standards” is the key phrase here"
