Anatomy

TermDefinition
Kyphosis Is an abnormal increased roundness in the thoracic curvature. It is often seen in elderly people with osteoporosis or chronic arthritis.
Hyoid Bone Is a single bone in the neck, a part of the axial skeleton.
Vertebral Column Is also called the spinal column or more simply, the spine.
Rickets & Osteomalacia Rickets in young children and osteomalacia in adults are metabolic skeletal diseases. Demineralization or loss of minerals from bone related to vitamin D deficiency.
Osteoporosis Is increased bone porosity and reduced mineral density and mass.
Osteoblasts Are small cells that synthesize and secrete an organic matrix called osteoid.
Osteoclasts Are giant multinucleate cells that are responsible for the active erosion of bone minerals.
Osteocytes Are mature non dividing osteoblasts that have become surrounded by matrix and now lie within lacunae.
Ribs Are elongated flat bones that form parallel curves resembling bars of a cage.
Diaphysis Main shaft like portion of the long bone.
