Chemical Change | A change that alters the identity of a substance resulting in a new substance or substances with different properties |
Chemical Property | Those characteristics that can be observed when a chemical reaction changes the identity of the substance, such as potential to rust, corrode, or combust |
Chemical Reactions | The process by which one or more substances change to produce one or more different substances |
State of Matter | A phase is another name for a physical state of matter such as solid, liquid, or gas |
Precipitate | Evidence of a chemical reaction; a precipitate is a solid substance in suspension (making the solution cloudy) or settled to the bottom of the solution |
compound | a substance composed of 2 or more atoms bonded together. |
Chemical Formula | A shorthand way to use chemical symbols and numbers to represent a substance. |
Chemical Equation | Using chemical symbols and formulas as a short hand way to describe a chemical reaction. |
Chemical Symbol | a notation of one or two letters representing a chemical element. |
Physical Property | a characteristic of matter that can be observed and measured without changing the chemical identity of the sample |
Evidence | information, facts or data supporting (or contradicting) a claim, assumption or hypothesis |
Subscript | how many atoms or molecules you have; It is usually written in the formula for a molecule |
Carbon | a nonmetallic chemical element found in all natural element combinations |
