Normal Fluid Balance | :adults need 1500 mL of water :About 2000 to 3000 mL are needed for normal fluid balance : human body's is 60% water : CNA's are responsible for residents to have enough fluids |
Common special Fluid orders | : encourage fluids- increased of fluids :Restricted fluids- limited to a certain amount :Nothing by mouth(NPO)- cannot eat/drink anything :Thickened liquids- all fluids thickened including water |

Parenteral Nutrition | Giving nutrients through a catheter inserted into a vein -Often called Total Parenteral nutrition ( TPN ) or Hyperalimentation -Used when person can't receive oral or enteral feedings -oral or enterings are enough to meet person needs |
IV Therapy | :Intravenous therapy ( IV) is giving fluids through a needle or catheter inserted in a vein :RN's are responsible for IV |
