Half-life the time it takes for the amount of drug in the body to be reduced by half
Loading dose some drugs are given in loading doses because the half life of the drug is long
Onset (1) time it takes for a drug to reach minimum effective concentration after administration
Peak (2) when it reaches its highest concentration in the blood
Peak drug level (3) highest plasma concentration of a drug at a specific time, indicates rate drug absorption
Through level (4) the lowest plasma concentration of a drug and it measures rate drug is eliminated
The 5 rights of drug administration Right patient, right drug, right does, right route, and right time
Brand name name given to a drug by the pharmaceutical company that developed it; it also called a trade name or proprietary name
chemical name name that reflects the chemical structure of a drug
generic name original designation that a drug is given when the drug company that developed it applies for the approval process
pharmacology the study of the biological effects of chemicals
Nursing Process assessment, evaluation, implementation, nursing diagnosis, and planning
