Life During Wartime

Hitler's Aims- The Blitz -To force Britain into surrender -To destroy industry, shipyards and railways that would aid Britain's war effort.
What was the Blitz A period of time between September 1940 and May 1941 when the German Luftwaffe bombed major British towns and cities.
Incendiary Bombs Bombs designed to start fires when they detonated.
London Was initially a primary target during the Blitz, particularity the East End with its docks. Between 2nd September 1940 and 2nd November 1940, London was bombed every night.
Coventry Suffered its worst attack on the night of 14 November 1940, over 30,000 incendiary bombs were dropped on the aircraft factories there and much of the city was destroyed.
Evacuation Before the Blitz, the government set up plans to evacuate children from major cities and move them to more rural areas.
Rationing 75% of Britain's food was imported the gvmnt suspected Germany would attack merchant ships. People had ration books with coupons that told them how much of something they were allowed weekly. 20 ration points a month for things other than food

Role of Women Many women worked in the forces as convoy drivers, dispatch riders, intelligence, nurses and administrative jobs. Many of the code breakers at Bletchley Park were women.
