Planets

QuestionAnswer
What is a planet? A celestial body that moves in orbit around a star or the sun.
What is the order of the planets from closest to furthest? Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune
Characteristics of Mercury. white in color, Closest planet to the sun. Smallest planet, 2nd hottest, NO atmosphere, revolution takes 88 days, craters.
Characteristics of Venus. orange/red in color, 2nd closest planet, thick atmosphere, hottest planet because of greenhouse affect, sister to earth in size, revolution takes 243 days.
Characteristics of Earth. Blue & green in color, Our home, made of 2/3 water, only planet known to support life, has a magnetosphere which deflects harmful electromagnetic rays from the sun, revolution every 365 1/4 days.
Characteristics of Mars. The red planet, largest dust storms, rovers explore it, revolution takes 687 days
Characteristics of Jupiter. Brown in color, largest planet, Red spot can fit 2 earths inside of it, many moons, revolution takes 12 years
Characteristics of Saturn. Brown in color, many rigs made of dust and ice, Low density
