Magic of Electrons

Words related to our study of electricity.

circuit A path through which electricity flows
Electricity A form of energy that uses charged particles like electrons and protons
Current The flow of electrical charge
Voltage The force (pressure) behind the flow of electricity
Conductor A material that allows electricity to flow through it
Insulator A material that does not allow electricity to flow through it
Parallel Circuit A closed circuit that follows two or more paths
Open Circuit A circuit that is incomplete or where the current does not flow
Closed Circuit A circuit that is complete and where current flows
Series Circuit A closed circuit that follows one path
Flow The movement of electricity along a wire (or conductive material)
Switch A device that can complete or break the connection of an electrical circuit
Path The way or direction an electric current flows. The wires provide this for the electricity.
Resistance The ability of a material or substance to resist the flow of electricity
Load The part of the circuit that consumes electricity (Example: motor or light bulb.)
Electromagnet Magnet created by passing a current through a coil of wire which surrounds a metal core
Battery A container consisting of one or more cells, in which chemical energy is converted into electricity and used as a source of power
Alternating current An electric current that reverses its direction many times a second at regular intervals
Direct current An electric current flowing in one direction only
