PMI point of maximal intensity bet 5 & 6 ribs just below L ninny where apex touches chest wall
pericardium dbl wall sac, surrounds heart, has 2 layers
2 layers of pericardium superficial fibrous pericardium & serous pericardium
superficial fibrous pericardium is dense CT & has 3 functions: protects, anchors & prevents overfilling w/blood
serour pericardium: thin layer under fibrous layer & has 3 sections
3 serous layers are: parietal layer, pericardial cavity & visceral layer
parietal layer is directly connected to the fibrous layer
pericardial cavity lies bet the two serous membrane layers & has a thin layer of lub fluid, produced by serous embranes
visceral layer AKA epicardium covers hearts surface -inner
3 layers of heart wall: epicardium, myocardium & endocardium
epicardium superficial layer, visceral layer of pericardium & has fat.
myocardium mostly cardiac muscle, bulk of heart; interlaced w/fibrous CT, which weaves it into interconnected bundles (fibrous skeleton of heart)
endocardium endothelium over thin layer CT. lines chambers and covers CT skeleton of valves
