Gaming Terms

TermDefinition
Action The fact or process of doing something, typically to achieve an aim.
Anime A style of Japanese film and television animation, typically aimed at adults as well as children.
Assets A useful or valuable thing, person or quality.
Console Comfort (someone) at time of grief or disappointment.
Cut Scene (in a video game) a scene that develops the story line and is often shown on completion of a certain level, or when the players character dies.
ESB An enterprise service bus
ESBR Rating ESRB ratings provide information about what's in a game or app so parents and consumers can make informed choices about which games are right for their family.
Events a thing that happens, especially one of importance
First Person Shooter short for first-person shooter.
FPS (Frames Per Second) 5. 0:08. Frame rate, then, is the speed at which those images are shown, or how fast you “flip” through the book. It's usually expressed as “frames per second,” or FPS.
Game Screen Genre Genres may encompass a wide variety of games, leading to even more specific classifications called subgenres.
GML The Geography Markup Language (GML) is the XML grammar defined by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) to express geographical features
Grind reduce (something) to small particles or powder by crushing it.
Janky of extremely poor or unreliable quality
Loot goods, especially private property, taken from an enemy in war.

Pixels a material thing that can be seen and touched.
Platform a raised level surface on which people or things can stand.
Quest a long or arduous search for something.
Realm a kingdom.
Room space that can be occupied or where something can be done, especially viewed in terms of whether there is enough
RPG Alternative Titles: electronic RPG, electronic role-playing game
Sprites an elf or fairy.
SDK Software Development Kit
Strategy a plan of action or policy designed to achieve a major or overall aim.
Top-Down denoting a system of government or management in which actions and policies are initiated at the highest level; hierarchical.
YOYO a toy consisting of a pair of joined discs with a deep groove between them in which string is attached and wound, which can be spun alternately downward and upward by its weight and momentum as the string unwinds and rewinds.
