Internet Scam | an attempt to trick someone, usually with the intent of stealing money or private information |
social media | websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking |
humane design | features or aspects of an app that prioritizes what's good for people |
identity theft | a crime in which your private information is stolen and used for criminal activity |
upstander | someone who responds to a bullying situation by confronting the bully directly or by telling a trusted adult |
feedback loop | when you get a response to something you do causing your brain to experience a temporary moment of pleasure |
corroboration | an additional source that confirms or supports a news story, article, or piece of information |
cyberbullying | using digital devices, sites, and apps to intimidate, harm, and upset someone |
shortened URL | a web address that has been condensed and could mislead an user into going into a risky website |
addictive design | features or aspects of a device or app that are intended to hook the user into frequent use |
empathy | identification with and understanding of another's situation and feelings |
habit | something a person does so often that it is done without thinking |
evaluate | examine and judge carefully to determine value |
oversharing | sharing personal feelings, information, or experiences that later make someone feel uncomfortable or regretful |
red flag feeling | a feeling of worry, sadness, anxiety or just being uncomfortable with an event, situation, or post |
private information | information that can be used to identify you such as your social security number, postal address, or phone number. |
ally | someone who responds to bullying behavior by supporting the person being bullied |
digital footprint | all of the information online about a person either posted by the person or other, intentionally or unintentionally |
bias | showing a strong opinion or preference for or against something |
phishing | when someone poses as an institution, like a bank, business, or school, and send you personalized message asking you to provide private information |
