Question | Answer |
---|---|
Polynomial | expression that has no operation other than addition, subtraction, and multiplication |
Monomial | one term |
Binomial | two terms |
Trinomial | three terms |
Degree | the exponent with the highest power |
Linear | first degree |
Quadratic | second degree |
Cubic | third degree |
Multiplying Two Binomials | 1. multiply each term of one binomial by each term of the other 2. combine like terms |
Factoring a Polynomial | transform it to a product of two or more factors |
Prime Polynomial | a polynomial whose factors only factors are 1 and the polynomial itself |
Leading Coefficient | a term with the coefficient other than one (5x) |
Conjugate Binomials | binomials that are the same except for the sign between them (3x+5)(3x-5) |
Difference of Two Squares | conjugate binomials are factors of ______________ (3x+5)(3x-5) to (9x²-25) |
Binomial Square Pattern | 1. square the first term : (x+9)² = (x²+9) 2. multiply the product of the first time and second term by two. 3. square the second term |
Square Root | ✓n : a number that gives n when squared (if n is any real number) |
Rational Numbers | a number that can be written as a ration of two numbers |
Irrational Numbers | a number that can NOT be written as a ration of two numbers (12.34664678896533456...) |
Closure Under Multiplacation Axiom | if x and y are any real numbers then xy is a unique real number |
Closure Under Addition Axiom | if x and y are any real numbers then x+y is a unique real number |
Closure | a given set of numbers is closed under an operation if there is just one answer, and that answer is in the given set whenever the operation is performed with numbers that are in that set ea: (number in set)(operation)(number in set) = (unique real number) |
