Scientific Method

QuestionAnswer
What is the Scientific Method? The steps scientists use to help them explain why things happen the way they do.
What is the problem of the experiment? What you're trying to figure out. It is always written in the form of a question.
What is a hypothesis? A educated guess about what will happen in your experiment. (If...then...because...)
What are the 3 types of variables in an experiment? 1. Constant 2. Independent 3. Dependent
What is the difference between the 3 types of variables. Constant-what you DO NOT change Independent-what you DO change Dependent-what changes in response to the changes (independent) variable -Provides you with data.
What occurs when you test your hypothesis Conduct the experiment and record data.
How/Why should you organize your data? Use charts or graphs so you can see the information more clearly.
What occurs during the conclusion stage? Analyze your data and summarize your findings. (I learned. . .because . . .if. . . then)
Why should you always repeat your experiment? To rule out any mistakes.
What are the steps of the Scientific Method? 1. Identify the problem in the form of a question 2. Make observations 3. Design your experiment and write down your procedure. The step by step instructions on how you completed the experiment. (What are the variables and what materials you used?)
